Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Servings: 6 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion

  • 2 cups milk

  • 6 cups canola oil, for frying

  • 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt (or garlic salt)

  • Kosher salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Slice onions thinly with a sharp knif and place in a deep bowl.

  2. Pour the milk over the onions and let them sit for an hour. This helps give the onions extra crispiness and texture.

  3. In a deep saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat until about 350 degrees Fahrenheit (test with a thermometer if unsure).

  4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and seasoned salt.

  5. Grab a handful of onions, squeeze out excess milk and dredge them in the flour. Shake oiff the excess flour and carefully place onions in the heated oil for frying. Stir them so they dont stick to each other, frying for about 2 minutes.

  6. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the onions onto a paper towel to soak the excess oil .

  7. Season with salt (optional seasoning: paprika; oregano; garlic salt) and serve!

Notes:

  1. These pair well with burgers, hot dogs, tacos and even steak!
